Narcan & Fentynal test strips

Education and Facts
The Proliferation of Counterfeit Pills
-
Mass Production and Trafficking: Mexican drug cartels are the primary source, utilizing chemicals from China to produce fake pills, often targeting adolescents and young adults via social media platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok.
-
Appearance of Legitimacy: Counterfeit pills are made to look identical to legitimate, high-demand prescription drugs, including OxyContin®, Percocet®, Vicodin®, Xanax®, and Adderall®.
-
Rise in Seizures: The DEA seized over 20.4 million fake pills in 2021, and more than 47 million in 2025, highlighting the rapid escalation of this crisis.
-
Lethality: A 2021 DEA analysis found that 42% of tested pills contained at least 2 mg of fentanyl, which is considered a deadly dose.
Impact on the Community
-
Unsuspecting Victims: Many users, especially teens and young adults, are unaware that they are consuming counterfeit pills, believing them to be authentic, which significantly widens the population at risk.
-
Overdose Crisis Driver: Synthetic opioids are involved in the majority of drug overdose deaths, with over 100,000 recorded in a 12-month period in 2021-2022.
-
Easy Access: Pills are widely available through social media and e-commerce, allowing easy access for minors.
Safety Information and Prevention
-
No "Safe" Street Drugs: Any pill obtained outside a licensed pharmacy must be considered dangerous and potentially lethal.
-
Signs of Overdose: Symptoms include cold/clammy skin, blue/purple skin or lips, pinpoint pupils, and infrequent or stopped breathing.
-
Naloxone (Narcan): This medication can reverse an opioid overdose and is critical to have on hand for anyone who might encounter these substances.
-
Education: It is vital to educate teenagers about the dangers of taking unprescribed pills, emphasizing that even one pill can kill.
